3-D Secure has moved from optional friction to a near-mandatory layer in iGaming payment flows, yet many operators still treat it as a pure compliance cost rather than a financial instrument with measurable returns. Getting the economics right changes how you deploy it.
What 3-D Secure Actually Costs an Operator
The direct costs fall into three buckets: gateway fees, integration overhead and conversion loss. Most payment service providers charge a per-authentication fee ranging from roughly 0.02 EUR to 0.10 EUR per transaction, depending on volume and contract terms.
